CV43 / CV101 combination

Seen here is a CV43 TR Cell and a CV101 crystal valve (diode) in their housing. The CV43, on the right in the picture, would be further connected to the line from the magnetron to the radar aerial. Its job is to protect the delicate crystal valve from the high power pulses of the magnetron, and then to allow any received signals to pass through to the diode and then on to the radar receiver.

Coupling loop and crystal valve housing This part of the assembly consists of the loop to couple the diode into the TR cell cavity, plus the diode itself which is housed in the area at the bottom of the picture. The co-ax cable connects to the diode and would be connected to the receiver. At the top of the picture is a stub and to the left is an unidentified aperture, possibly for a tuning slug.


On the right is a closeup of the diode in its carrier and plugged into the housing. Below is the diode in its carrier extracted from the housing.

Here the CV101 can be seen. The black cap unscrews from the aluminium body to allow the diode to be extracted. The diode is quite easy to remove and replace, a fact that would be valuable as repairs under fire would need to be fast. a CV101 in its carrier
